Entrepreneur magazine created a list of the hottest franchise categories for 2021, which included a Lenexa-based company.

“The events of 2020 have largely shifted the question of ‘What’s popular?’ to the question of ‘What’s essential?,'” said Entrepreneur, which highlighted 369 franchises in 10 categories.

It predicts categories such as automotive services, home improvement and tech services will thrive next year. Lenexa-based City Wide Franchise was highlighted in cleaning and restoration, a category that hasn’t made the list in years.

City Wide Franchise is the franchisor of City Wide Facility Solutions, formerly known as City Wide Maintenance. City Wide started out as a traditional janitorial company in 1961 and has evolved to a management company for commercial facility maintenance. It began franchising in 2001 and is on track to end the year with more than $360 million in systemwide revenue.

City Wide manages a plethora of commercial facility services, such as janitorial, roof repair, mold remediation, electrostatic disinfectant spraying and parking lot striping.

One aspect that has driven City Wide’s success is the employees and contractors who embody the company’s core values: professionalism, integrity, servant leadership and accountability, CEO Jeff Oddo said during a previous interview.

City Wide and its sister companies — Oddo Development and BASYS Processing — rank No. 61 on the Kansas City Business Journal‘s Private Companies List and No. 106 on the Private-Sector Employers List.
